Why Did Tiktok Get Sued - The United States (US) Federal Trade Commission (FTC) imposed a fine of $ 5.7 million (Rp80 billion) to TikTok. This short video sharing application is found to violate the privacy rules of users under the age of 13.

The violation is in the form of collecting the privacy of children's user information. And TikTok, an application from China, also agreed to pay the fine and would not appeal the allegations dropped by the FTC.

According to the FTC, a fine of $5,6 million is the largest civil penalty ever applied in the case of children's privacy.

"We found the practice unsettling by TikTok such as collecting and exposing the location of children and adolescents. However, the Tumbling Group moved even though there were thousands of complaints from parents, they did not delete them and saved for a long time," said the FTC official statement.

"TikTok knows that the users of the application are children, but they never ask for parental permission before collecting names, e-mail addresses and other personal information from users under the age of 13," said FTC Chief Joe Simons.

Massachusetts Senator from the Democratic Party, Ed Markey, was furious. He stated that along with other members of parliament the law would update the child's privacy.

"Children now live in the internet world. While companies like TikTok are too eager to take advantage of children's users when there is a gap," Marky was quoted as saying by Wired, Wednesday (02/27/2019).

While TikTok immediately updated the rules of the game. They ask users to verify the date of birth. If you are under 13 years old, users lose the right to upload videos.
